Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today directed Dilip Construction Pvt Ltd to provide compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the kin of the deceased and assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured in the Bhubaneswar Airport mishap.
According to sources, the Commission has also asked the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to pay the compensation amount to the victim and the deceased family by deducting the same amount from the bills, in case the firm fails to pay.
This was informed by rights activist Lalatendu Das who had filed a petition with OHRC in this regard. The Commission has further directed the authorities concerned of AAI and Dilip Construction Pvt Ltd to depose before it on February 11.
It may be mentioned here that an under-construction roof of a link building joining the Terminal 1 and 2 of the City Airport collapsed at around 11 pm on January 24. While a labourer died another was rescued from under the debris with critical injuries.
Around 15-20 labourers were engaged in the construction work at the linking building. When asked about the collapse of the roof, MD of Dilip Construction, Dilip Khatoi said that the construction work started at 11 am and ended at 11 pm on Friday. However, two labourers, who were there, got trapped when the under-construction roof caved in on them.
On being informed, NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Service personnel reached the spot and managed to pull out two labourers trapped under the huge pile of debris.
