Bhubaneswaer: Man Held For Duping lakhs On Pretext Of Providing Admission In Medical College


Cuttack: The Odisha Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a man from Bhubaneswar duping Rs 69 lakh in the name of providing admission in private medical college in Bhubaneswar.

The accused youth has been identified as Soumyakant Mohanty (34) of Nimapada area in Puri district

According to Crime Branch officials, on June 24, one, Dr Sujit Nath Choudhury (60) had lodged a complaint with CID, CB in Cuttack alleging that a man named Soumyakant Mohanty had duped Rs 69 lakh from him in the pretext of providing admission into MBBS course of his daughter.

Acting on the complaint, police launched a manhunt to nab the accused person and today he was arrested by the Crime Branch.

During the course of the investigation of the case, it is established that Soumyakanta Mohanty and his associates namely Raghunath Mohanty and others hatched up a criminal conspiracy and with dishonest intention and the false promise of securing an MBBS seat to the daughter of the complaint.

Four fixed deposit bonds of Rs. 8 lakhs, one laptop, one mobile phone have been seized from the possession of accused Soumyakanta Mohanty, informed sources.

As prima facie evidence under Section 120B/420/34 of the IPC, the accused Soumyakanta Mohant has been forwarded to the Court.
