Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Kendrapara district will remain closed from today till July 31.

As per reports, the wildlife sanctuary will remain shut for visitors for smooth breeding and nesting activities of estuarine crocodiles.

As the reptiles turn violent in this period, authorities close down the sanctuary for a brief period to ensure the safety of tourists.

Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the estuarial region of the Bramhani-Baitarani rivers in Kendrapara district of Odisha. It is the only rainforest in the State famous for estuarine crocodiles.

Notably, the Bhitarkanika National Park authority last year had spotted 103 nests of Estuarine crocodile in Kanika, Gahirmatha, Mahakalapada, and Rajnagar wildlife forest range division under Bhitarkanika National Park.
