Bolangir: Medical services at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir were affected after the nurses called for cease work on Friday.

The agitation comes after a nurse was attacked by the relatives of a patient on Thursday night.

The victim has been identified as Pratima Pradhan.

According to sources, Pratima was on duty at the female medicine ward last night when two men along with a patient reached the ward.

While the patient’s kin asked for a bed immediately, the nurse asked them to wait for a doctor. Irked over this, they started screaming and began recording a video on their mobile phone. When pratima opposed their act,  two persons allegedly manhandled and thrashed her. She has sustained injuries on her face and left eye.

Pratima also lodged an FIR in this regard at the police outpost inside the premises of the hospital.

However, resentment brewed among her colleagues as they resorted to cease work demanding arrest of the accused duo. The agitating nurses also threatened to intensify the stir if their demands are not fulfilled immediately, sources said.
