New Delhi: Renowned Bharatanatyam exponent and Padma Vibhushan recipient Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy passed away on Saturday at the age of 84.
“Dr. Krishnamurthy had been battling age-related ailments and spent the last seven months in the ICU,” said her manager and secretary, Ganesh.
“Padma Vibhushan Dr. Yamini Krishnamurthy was admitted to Apollo Hospital due to a prolonged history of various health issues.”
Dr Yamini Krishnamurthy was an eminent figure in Indian classical dance, celebrated for her expertise in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. The legendary classical dancer’s career was adorned with numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri (1968), Padma Bhushan (2001), and Padma Vibhushan (2016).
Krishnamurthy is survived by two sisters and leaves behind a legacy through the Yamini School of Dance. Her mortal remains will be laid to rest at the academy on Sunday.
