Bengaluru: Leander Paes’s final ATP Tour match in India ended on a disappointing note as he and Matthew Ebden lost in the men’s doubles summit clash at the Bengaluru Open against Purav Raja and Ramkumar Ramanathan.
Paes, who is playing his final year of professional tennis calling it “The Last Roar”, and his Australian partner Ebden were comprehensively defeated 0-6, 3-6.
After the defeat, an emotional Paes said he will miss the massive support from the home crowd.
Raja and Ramanathan on the other hand, advanced past the last-four stage after their opponents Saketh Myneni and Matt Reid of Australia retired from the match. Myneni and Reid had lost the first set 5-7 before quitting.
India’s singles campaign had ended on Thursday itself Prajnesh Gunneswarah, Sumit Nagal, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Saketh Myneni, Niki Poonacha and Sidhart Rawat all getting knocked out.
