Mayurbhanj: Baripada, which observes the second most popular Rath Yatra of Odisha after Puri, is all decked up for celebrating Rath Yatra today.
The pulling of chariots will be undertaken in two days. Yesterday, the ceremonial ‘Pahandi Bije’ of the three deities was carried out after getting ‘Agyan Mala’ from Ambika Temple and later the ‘Ratha Pratista’ rituals were also completed.
While on the first day, Pahandi Bije of the Trinity was done, on the second day, Taladhwaja of Lord Balabhadra will be pulled followed by Devidalana of Devi Subhadra.
Pulling of Devidalana is stopped in the evening and resumes the next day. On July 6, both Devidalana and Nandighosa of Lord Jagannath will be pulled to Gundicha temple by devotees.
It is believed that once Rath Yatra at Puri is done, the holy siblings reside here for a while. Hence, the chariot festival is conducted a day late here.
Baripada’s Ratha Yatra is popular for its unique culture, pulling off the Chariot or Ratha of Maa Subhadra, only by the women. The women can be seen in all vigour and spirit, pulling the chariot. The chariots like the crowds are big. Baripada is the most favoured destination of women from all over the places. Women are eager to pull the chariots.
The administration has taken up a host of measures for lighting, traffic control, security, healthcare, ambulance services and checking of food, water and sanitation.
Besides, chariots of the Holy Trinity will also be pulled as per the unique tradition at Tulasi Khetra Kendrapara and Sabar Khetra Koraput today.
