Bank heist foiled in Ganjam’s Digapahandi, five dacoits nabbed

Digapahandi: Police late on Thursday night nabbed five dacoits from Mohuda mango orchard in Digapahandi while they were planning a bank heist.

They have been sent to jail after their bail pleas were rejected by Berhampur SDJM. The accused are Pinatu Gaud alias Panda of Lathikata, Shyam Sundar Goud alias Cheru, Rabi Panda of  Baidyanathpur’s Adua Sahi, Sanjay Nayak and K Amit Patra.

Police have seized lethal weapons including two live bombs and two swords from their possession. Police sources said they were planning to loot a cooperative bank at Mohuda village.

The accused were involved in a number of cases under different police stations in the district. Police sources said they are involved in dacoity, extortion, and abduction.

The police team headed by Digapahandi IIC while on patrol duty on Thursday night could detect something unusual activity in the mango orchard due to the constant flashing of torch lights.
