Madhupatna police station in Odisha’s Cuttack Sunday arrested a couple on the charges of engaging a Bangladeshi minor girl in prostitution.
The accused are Bheera Gujjar Chowdhury (55) and Jasmine (36), a couple from Rajasthan, living in the Gopalpur area. Both were produced in court on Sunday.
According to the statement given by the victim to the police, some brokers trafficked her from Bangladesh before Dussehra. After entering the West Bengal border, she was taken to Kolkata. From there, some other youths brought the victim to Bhubaneswar and stayed more than 15 days. Later, she was taken to Baripada. After that, she came to Bhubaneswar again. There, she was engaged in prostitution on the pretext of being kept in a massage centre.
On the 7th, a broker from Bhubaneswar handed over the minor girl to Bheera and Jasmine, who live in Gopalpur. The victim came to Gopalpur with her husband and wife. But there, the said couple engaged the minor girl in prostitution and asked her to do various household chores. Unable to bear, the minor girl ran away from home in the middle of the night. When she crossed the Kathajodi bridge and reached Madhupatna police station, the PCR team rescued her and rehabilitated her in a Basundhara home.
After hearing this matter from the victim, the CWC informed the Cuttack DCP through a letter. In this sequence, a case was registered at the Madhupatna police station. The victim said she wanted to return to Kolkata by bus that night. The accused, Bheera and Jasmine, were arrested and produced in court after the victim revealed their identity before the CWC and Madhupatna police stations, informed Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena.
On the other hand, the victim will undergo a medical examination on Monday.
