Banaklagi Rituals Of Deities: Darshan At Srimandir Restricted From 4.30pm To 8.30pm
Puri: Devotees will not be allowed to have darshan of the Trinity at Srimandir for about four hours between 4.30 pm and 8.30 pm today following the Banaklagi rituals of deities.
“The ritual will begin at 4.30pm after the completion of Madhyana Dhupa. The Jay Vijay Dwar will remain closed for the special rituals of the presiding deities,” the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said in a notification.
Since the ritual is a secret one and no one except a small group of servitors are allowed to be present inside the sanctum sanctorum to conduct the divine service. It takes about five to six hours to complete the process.
Traditional colours such as haritala (red), hengula (yellow), sankha (white) and black which is prepared out of ashes after burning a typical fabric by servitors are being used on the Lords’ faces to give them a fresh look.
In this make-up session that beautifies the deities, Dattamohapatra servitors perform the ritual.
