Balasore Irrigation Division Cashier, Bhadrak Service Cooperative Society Secy Caught Taking Bribe

Bhubaneswar: In two separate operations, the Odisha Vigilance sleuths today apprehended a Junior Assistant-cum-Cashier at the Office of Superintending Engineer in the Irrigation Division of Balasore while accepting Rs.5,000 bribe and the Secretary of Chandigaon Service Cooperative Society (SCS) in Bhadrak while taking Rs.9,000 bribe.

Pradipta Kumar Rout, Junior Assistant-cum-Cashier, Office of Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Division, Balasore has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.5,000 from a Contractor for processing his file for the release of his security money deposited against the works executed by him.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today wherein accused Pradipta Kumar Rout was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.5,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Rout and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash of Rout gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Rout located near Angaragadia, Balasore and his office room. Rout, Jr. Asst.-cum-Cashier has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.

In this connection, Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.6 dated 13.03.2023 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.

In one more Vigilance Operation today, Tapan Kumar Nayak, Secretary of Chandigaon Service Co-operative Society (SCS), Dist-Bhadrak has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.9,000 from a paddy farmer for his iris (eye) scanning to authenticate him as the registered farmer under the above Society for the purchase of 240 quintals of paddy.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid today wherein the accused Secretary Tapan Kumar Nayak was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.9,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Nayak and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash of Nayak gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him. Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Nayak at Charampa, Bhadrak and his office room at Chandigaon. Nayak has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.

In this connection, Balasore Vigilance P.S. Case No.05 dated 13.03.2023 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
