Baitarani River embankment caves in again; locals in panic


Bhadrak: Around 15-feet of the embankment on the Baitarani River caved in at Muan village under Aradi panchayat in Bhadrak district early on Friday morning.

Sources said, the embankment, which protects the village from floods, developed a crack and later collapsed. Now flood threat looms large for more than 40 families residing nearby.

Earlier on December 21, 200-feet embankment was destroyed by high hide triggering flood concerns among the locals of the low-lying areas.

Following the series caving of river embankment, panic gripped the locals of Muan village and few villagers have also left their homes in order to avoid any mishap.

Meanwhile, villagers have demanded immediate repairing of the embankment as delay in the same might cause a collapse of remaining 40-feet of the boundary wall of the river.
