Australian Open: Naomi Osaka battles into quarter-final

Melbourne: US Open champion Naomi Osaka won her 11th straight Grand Slam match to reach her first Australian Open quarterfinal after three dramatic sets on Rod Laver Arena.

Osaka with 4-6 6-3 6-4 scoreline defeated 13th seed Anastasija Sevastova on Monday.

The fourth-seeded soared to her maiden Grand Slam title last summer and won the major tournament level on Monday after one hour and 47 minutes

Osaka will now face sixth seed Elina Svitolina for a place in the semi-finals.

The sixth-seeded Ukrainian breezed through the first set with two breaks of serve taking a 5-0 lead before converting her second set point to level the match.

Elina saved five break points during a serve in the decider and then converted her first match point to seal the contest in an hour and 36 minutes.

Breaking Sevastova in the seventh game of the decider, Osaka with an imperious forehand down the line won the match and entered the quarterfinals.
