Assistant Engineer Gets 2-Yr RI In Bribery Case

Cuttack: A Special Vigilance court in Cuttack today sentenced former assistant engineer in office of district agriculture officer in Banki to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposes a fine of Rs 10,000 in a graft case

Satchidananda Behera, Ex-Assistant Engineer, office of District Agriculture Officer, Banki, Cuttack, A/p-Assistant Engineer, office of District Agriculture Officer, Satyanagar, Bhubaneswar, was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Special Judge Vigilance, Cuttack TR No 62/2011 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting illegal gratification (bribe) from the complainant for preparing the bill of a dug well executed by him and for sanction of subsidy in his favour under Jalanidhi Scheme.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack convicted Satchidananda Behera and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.10,000, and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months for the offence U/s 13 (2) PC Act, 1988.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Satchidananda Behera from service following his conviction.

H.S. Mishra, Ex-Inspector Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Sarbeswar Barik, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Cuttack and Deepak Kumar Swain, Addl. P.P, Vigilance, Cuttack conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
