Assam: 12 hurt in grenade blast near Guwahati Zoo Road


Guwahati: As many as 12 persons received injuries in an explosion that took place outside a mall on Zoo Road area in Guwahati in Assam on Wednesday.

According to police, two bike-borne miscreants hurled the grenade outside the Guwahati Central at around 8 pm and fled the spot.

Police rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off. Meanwhile, police have launched a probe into the incident.

Nearly 12 persons received injuries and five persons among them are undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The condition of two persons is stated to be critical. Five others with minor injuries were admitted to a private hospital.

Reports said, ULFA(I) militants had claimed responsibility for the blast that took place in the heart of the city. Two of the injured were identified as SSB personnel, news agencies said.
