Jharsuguda: While Odisha government is working tirelessly to make its management more accountable and responsive ahead of launching the ‘MO Sarkar’ programme, some officials are yet to abide by the instructions of the government.

In a recent incident of corruption reported from Jharsuguda, the video of an Assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) demanding bribe went viral on social media.

As per reports, ASI Parikhita Sahu of Banaharpalli police station in Jharsuguda was seen demanding bribe from a truck driver whose vehicle was seized by the police over some issues.

Sources said, though the vehicle was given a permit to release by the court, Sahu demanded money from the driver to release his vehicle. The matter came to light after the video of Sahu demanding money from the driver surfaced on social media.

Taking cognizance to the matter Jharsugusa SP Ashwini Mohanty immediately suspended the accused ASI.

“I came to know about the matter from the viral video. Whether he has received the bribe amount or not is still not clear. But it is confirmed that Sahu was demanding gratification,” said Mohanty.

“The ‘MO Sarkar’ programme is going to launch on October 2 which will work towards 5Ts (Transparency, Technology, Teamwork, Transformation and Time). As per the instructions under ‘MO Sarkar’ programme, I immediately suspended Sahu based on the facts,” he added.

“Earlier there were complaints against Sahu that he was not doing his duty properly. As there was no proof any action was not taken against him. As per the instruction of the Odisha CM, we have adopted zero-tolerance policy. If any government employee is found involved in illegal case, immediate actions will be taken against him/her. Besides, if the situation demands criminal actions will also be initiated against the concerned person,” Mohanty further added.
