Army jawan injured in stone-pelting succumbs

Srinagar: An Army jawan who sustained head injuries during stone-pelting by a group of youths on Thursday succumbed to his injuries today at a hospital in Srinagar.

The deceased was identified as Sepoy Rajendra Singh of Badena village in Uttarakhand. He was part of quick reaction team (QRT) which was providing security to a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) convoy on Thursday when the incident occurred.

According to reports, the convoy was passing through the Anantnag bypass tri-junction near NH-44 when a few youths hurled stones at the vehicle. Singh was injured after a stone directly hit his head.

He was provided immediate first-aid and shifted to 92 Base Hospital where the soldier succumbed to injuries today.
