Deogarh: Police foiled an armed dacoity bid and arrested two persons from a mango orchard at Kundeigola village under Reamal block in Deogarh district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Kundeigola IIC Prashant Patra conducted a surprise raid at the mango orchard in the wee hours of Monday when five dacoits were planning to commit loot in the area. While two of them were nabbed from the spot, three others managed to escape.
The arrested have been identified as Kalia alias Saroj Pradhan (27) of Kanjiama village under Kundeigola PS limits and Gunu alias Ajit Kisan (21) of Naktideula area in Sambalpur district. A country-made pistol, a machette, lock breaking tools and three bikes from their possession.
During interrogation, the arrested duo confessed that they were hatching a plan to commit loot in the area with three other members of their gang.
The accused persons were produced before a local court here today and sent to jail after their bail plea was rejected, Kundeigola police said.
A case (82/19) under Sections, 399, 402 of the IPC and 25 of Arms Act has been registered in this regard and efforts are on the nab the other absconding members of the dacoity gang, the police added.
