AR Rahman in Oscar race again


Mumbai: It’s good news for music lovers and every Indian, as music maestro AR Rahman has a chance to win Oscar awards again for his work on sports biopic “Pele: Birth of a legend”. Rahman who had won double Oscars for his work on “Slumdog Millionaire” in 2009 is featured in the long lists of Best Original Scores and Best Original Song in the 89th Academy Awards.

Rahman’s creation will compete with 144 other Original scores for the top award to be held in February next year. Besides “Ginga” which he composed to celebrate Pele’s soccer legacy is also vying for the Oscars among 91 songs. The Oscars are conferred by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Nominations for the Academy awards will be declared on January 24 next year with the award ceremony to be held on February 26, 2017 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Centre in Hollywood.

Rahman has been nominated for this top awards in several occasions in the past for various Hollywood projects.
