Jharsuguda: Arrested ex-MLA Anup Sai’s family members, who were on a protest in front of Jharsuguda Collector’s office since last evening, ended their dharna after assurance by the District Collector.
According to reports, Sai’s entire family members last evening sat on dharna in front of the Collectorate accusing the Chhattisgarh Police of harassment and urging for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Jharsuguda Collector Saroj Kumar Samal, Project Director Tapiram Majhi and sub-Collector Shiba Toppo discussed the matter with Sai’s family members and assured them to appraise the Home Department for a CBI probe into the 2016 double murder.
Sai’s family members including his mother Hemalata, elder brother Pramod Sai, sister-in-law, son Subham, daughter Subhrasmita, wife and nephew Sangram sat on dharna alleging that the neighbouring state police repeatedly harassed Anup Sai into making the confession.
The Chhattisgarh Police threatened Sai with dire consequences including the arrest of his family members due to which he confessed to the murders, Sai elder brother Pramod alleged. He stated that an impartial probe by the CBI would unearth the entire plot.
After sitting on dharna for nearly 22 hours, the district administration heard their plea and assured them of looking into their demand for a CBI probe into the 2016 sensational murder of Kalpana and his 14-year-old daughter Babli.
On the other hand, Raigarh Addl SP Abhisekh Verma has responded to the allegations made by the family member of Sai. He said, “We have no intention to trouble anyone, they have been asked to depose for facilitating better interrogation into the double murder case.”
