New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has called for “mini-Shaheens” across India. This has come after probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The SDPI leader Elyas Thumbe said that the party will hold protests wherever it has a presence.
The ED has found a financial link with the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates. During the probe, the agency also found that the organisation has its offices in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. This was the epicenter of anti-CAA protests.
The agency which has been probing the PFI under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) since 2018. It has found that at least Rs 120 crore were deposited in bank accounts in western Uttar Pradesh after the new citizenship law was passed by the Parliament late last year.
The ED source said that it suspected that these funds were used by PFI affiliates to fuel anti-CAA protests in various parts of the country.
