Bhubaneswar: Home Minister Amit Shah has praised Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and criticized Congress for playing divisive politics. Addressing a rally at Janata Maidan here on Friday, Shah thanked the people of Odisha for helping BJP to win eight seats in the election and said this has created a positive atmosphere in the eastern region.
The Home Minister, who was here to attend the Eastern Zonal Council Meeting, had lunch with CM Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence (Naveen Niwas). Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also at the luncheon with the two leaders.
Shah went straight to Janata Maidan to address the gathering. But, most parts of his address was devoted to criticism to Congress, TMC and Samajwadi Party. He alleged that these parties were fomenting hatred and instigating riots in the country.
The Home Minister handed down a list of financial assistance the Modi government is providing to the Naveen government. He urged the CM to provide the same to the people.
Interestingly, Shah did not utter a single word against Odisha Chief Minister although the BJP had earlier described Naveen as a ‘burnt transformer’.
Shah tried his best to bring home the point that the Modi government has done a lot in the past five years. He compared the Modi rule with the 55-year rule of Congress. The Home Minister dwelt at length on abrogation of article 370, construction of Ram Temple and passing of CAA and described these as great achievements of the Modi government.
The Home Minister said the BJP is emerging as a stronger force in the eastern region and added that the vote percentage has increased to 38.4 from 21 per cent. He said eight members of parliament of the 303 belong to Odisha. Modi government is doing its best to initiate development projects in the state.
Odisha received its due share in railways, roads, Ujjawala, Jan Aushadhi, Shah said and added that various schemes have been undertaken from ocean to forest. The Modi government has set in the development process in the state, he added.
He said Odisha is his second home and added that he wanted that Odisha must develop like Gujarat. Ninety-one lakh people have voted in favour of BJP, but Naveen Patnaik got the support of 1.4 crore people, the Home Minister said.
Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Odisha is getting special attention of prime minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. He said the Centre had given Rs 300 crore for Fani cyclone. Pradhan Odisha will get fifty thousand crores on Coal Royalty.
He urged the Odisha government to implement Ayushman health scheme for the benefit of the people. Pradhan praised Odisha CM for presenting the demands of the people of the state properly.
The meeting was attended by union minister Pratap Sarangi, BJP leader Arun Singh, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda, MP Aparajita Sarangi, deputy leader of opposition Bishnu Sethi, Jayanarayan Mishra, Ashwini Baishnab, Bijay Mohapatra, Giridhar Gamang and others. Prithviraj Harichandan, Bhrugu Buxipatra and Golak Mohapatra managed the proceedings.
