Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 59th DGs and IGs conference at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Friday, with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in attendance.
Thirteen senior police officials were honoured with the President’s Police Medal at the event.
Shah and Doval arrived in Bhubaneswar in the afternoon to participate in the three-day pan-India event. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, along with Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, welcomed Shah at the airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive by 4:30 pm, although his attendance at the conference is scheduled for Saturday.
The conference will include discussions on developing and sharing best practices and strategies for addressing crime control, law and order management, and internal security challenges.
In addition to security discussions, the conference will feature unique elements such as Yoga sessions, business sessions, break-out sessions, and thematic dining tables.
Over 70 platoons of police and anti-terror units have been stationed in Bhubaneswar for three days due to threats from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to disrupt the meeting. Several areas in the city have also been designated as no drone/flying zones.
