London: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is likely to announce a further relaxation in coronavirus restrictions in England soon, despite a surge in daily cases linked to the Delta variant.
Johnson is expected to move ahead with the final stage of the four-step plan out of lockdown and “restore people’s freedoms”.
Step four, which is scheduled to come into effect on July 19, will mean the removal of mask-wearing rules, the end of social distancing and the return of large-scale events.
Amid plenty of speculation, UK housing secretary Robert Jenrick said on Sunday data is looking “very positive” for the government to kick off the final step of a four-step roadmap out of lockdown.
The United Kingdom is witnessing another surge in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant first detected in India. The surge had earlier prompted the government to extend the lockdown easing by four weeks when the country was reporting around 7000 new coronavirus disease cases per day.
