All-party meeting in Odisha Assembly reaches consensus to discuss Mahanadi issue


Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the ongoing second phase of the State Assembly’s Budget Session, an all-party meeting held today reached a consensus for a discussion on the longstanding Mahanadi River water sharing dispute on Friday.

As soon as the House gathered for the day on Thursday, Congress MLAs started demanding suspension of the ‘Question Hour’ to hold a discussion on Mahanadi water dispute issue. Following uproar, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the House till 11.30 am.

Soon after the House reassembled for the Question Hour, legislators of both the Congress and the BJP shouted slogans.

The Speaker being unable to run the House, adjourned the House again and called for an all-party meeting at 3 pm.

After the all-party meeting, Opposition party chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati informed that a consensus has been reached for a discussion on the Mahanadi issue in the Assembly tomorrow.
