Mumbai: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 is at the centre of a controversy as the trailer for the film has quickly become the most-disliked video on YouTube, in less than 24 hours later.
The trailer of the movie, his first collaboration with younger daughter Alia Bhatt, which was released on Wednesday, has received 4.5 million ‘dislikes’ on the video sharing platform, with a massively unfavourable ‘like-dislike’ ratio. With more than 15 million views, only 2,55,000 people have ‘liked’ the trailer.
A campaign to make it the most disliked trailer on YouTube was initiated in the days leading up to its unveiling, by fans of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide in June. Sushant’s fans have been propagating the conspiracy theory that the actor was ostracised by the film industry, most notably by ‘insiders’, which drove him to suicide.
Alia, as Twitter reminded everyone, had spoken dismissively of Sushant on the chat show Koffee With Karan. Her proximity to filmmaker Karan Johar – rumoured to have joined other producers in shutting Sushant out of films – also triggered a backlash, amid renewed criticism of nepotism and favouritism in the film industry.
Sadak 2 is produced by Vishesh Films and also is the first collaboration between father Mahesh Bhatt and daughter Alia. The film is slated to release on August 28 on DisneyPlus Hotstar.
The film stars Alia, Sanjay and Aditya in the lead while other actors include Pooja, Jisshu Sengupta, Gulshan Grover, Makarand Deshpande, Priyanka Bose, Mohan Kapoor and Akshay Anand.
