Alert! LC- III hoisted at Odisha ports

Bhubaneswar: The meteorological office here issued a cyclone warning in Odisha putting the state’s ports on high alert.

The Local Cautionary Signal No. III (LC- III) has been issued in all ports of Odisha keeping in view the impending cyclonic storm Yaas.

In view of the weather forecast, Local Cautionary Signal No 4 has been hoisted at ports in Paradeep and Dhamra 4, while LC- III has been ut up at Puri and Gopalpur port.

Cyclonic storm Yaas formed over east-central Bay of Bengal this morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The system is very likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island around noon of 26th May as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.

“It is very likely to move slowly north-northwestwards, intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. It would continue to move north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts by 26th May early morning. It is very likely to cross north Odisha West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island around noon of 26th May as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm,” a bulletin of the IMD issued at 8.30 AM said.
