New Delhi: On the occasion of Independence Day, two big Bollywood films- Akshay’s Gold and John’s Satyameva Jayate hit the silver screen, giving tough competition to each other.
Akhay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate opened to an impressive combined total of Rs 45 crore (approximately) on the first day of business in the box office.
While Gold, had a collection of about Rs. 25.25 crore on its first day in the box office, Satyameva Jayate seeded second by having a business of about Rs. 20 crores.
Reema Kagti directorial Gold is a historical sports drama that depicts the story of India’s first Olympic gold medal win. The film tracks back to the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936 (played by Akshay Kumar).
The film also stars Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Vineet Kumar Singh and Mouni Roy.
Milap Zaveri directorial Satyameva Jayate is an anti-corruption movie where John Abraham plays a vigilante who fights against corruption and social injustice.
Satyameva Jayate also features Manoj Bajpayee, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Aisha Sharma.
