Mumbai: Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar has been elected as the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday.
A four-time Deputy Chief Minister, he has held portfolios like Finance and Planning, Irrigation/Water Resources, Rural Development.
Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced that Pawar will take over as Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, adding NCP has emerged as the single largest opposition party in the 288-member House.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, backed by his ally — the BJP — won the floor test in Maharashtra Assembly.
The floor test sealed his position as Maharashtra’s 20th CM and the leader of what he calls the ‘real Shiv Sena’ that is based on Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology.
