Sambalpur: An ailing tusker undergoing treatment at Taladihi forest under Barasuan range succumbed to injuries on Tuesday.
According to sources, the elephant was spotted in a critical condition two days ago at Padiabahal forest range in Sambalpur. The pachyderm was tranquilised and was undergoing treatment. However, the jumbo died on Tuesday morning.
The exact cause behind the death of the tusker will be ascertained after the post-mortem report arrives, sources said.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) informed that the pachyderm was injured during a fight in the herd and ruled out any poaching incident.
