Ailing tusker treated by forest officials in Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal: An ailing tusker, who sustained bullet injuries, is being treated by forest department officials and the veterinary team today at Gadapalasuni village under Mahabiroda forest range in Dhenkanal district.
According to sources, the pachyderm was tranquillised by Forest department officials with the help of a team from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar for treatment of the injuries.
After a detailed medical examination, all the wounds of the elephant were cleaned and dressed. Later, antibiotic injections and other medicines were administered to the elephant.
Officials suspect that the jumbo was shot at by poachers in the forest under Telakoi forest division in Keonjhar district around ten days ago.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident took place in a bid to kill the pachyderm for its tusks, forest officials said.
