Islamabad: In order to bring a negotiated settlement to end the Afghanistan’s 17- year old war, the Taliban say they are holding another round of discussion with US officials on Monday.
Media reports said, this time they are involving Saudi, Pakistani and Emirati representatives in the United Arab Emirates.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, however, offered no further details on the meeting.
Media reports said that Khalil Minawi, director of Afghanistan’s state-run Bakhtar news agency, also confirmed the meeting.
He took to Twitter saying officials from the United States, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the UAE held meetings on Sunday ahead of “the Pakistani-sponsored US-Taliban meeting.”
Reports said the Afghan officials are not expected to attend Monday’s meeting. But, their presence in the UAE is a significant step in efforts to get the two sides talking, the report added.
