Ganjam: In a brazen attack on the administration, sand smugglers on Saturday night assaulted the additional tehsildar of Ganjam and three revenue inspectors during a raid at Malijagannathpur sand ghat.
The victims have been identified as Ganjam additional tehsildar Suvendu Kumar Jena, RI Bhaskar Sahu, Sitaram Sahu, and Sushant Kumar Behera.
Sources said, on being informed about illegal sand lifting on the river bed of Rishikulia, the additional tehsildar along with three officials reached the spot and raided the area. During the raid, the miscreants attacked the officials and threatened them with guns.
On being informed about the incident, Chhatrapur SDPO Gautam Kisan, Ganjam IIC P Swarup Kisan reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
Three persons have also been detained in connection with the case.
