Accused attempted sex with murdered Nayagarh minor girl: SIT Chief

Bhubaneswar: The accused Saroj Sethi of Nayagarh had sex with the minor girl after strangulating her to death in a brutal manner, said senior IPS officer Arun Bothra at a presser here on Tuesday. He told reporters that the five-year-old girl was done to death in a most brutal and heinous manner.

Bothra, who heads the Special Investigation Team (SIT), said that Sethi was alone at his home on July 14 when the little girl arrived at the house to ask for some blueberries (Jamun). The girl had a good relationship with the Saroj’s younger sister. Saroj’s mother and sister are doing jobs.

As the minor girl was fond of taking blueberries, she had gone to the house of Saroj for the sole purpose.

Bothra said as none was at the house, Saroj took the girl to a room towards the backyard of the house and tried undressing her. When she protested, Saroj strangulated the minor girl to death. After killing her, he wanted to have sex with the corpse.

Bothra said a semen discharge on the girl’s frock was the evidence that Saroj had tried to have sex with the victim. After realizing that the girl was dead, he fetched a jute sack and packed the body. Then he dumped the body in a pond near his house.

Saroj covered branches of a coconut tree to cover the bag, Bothra said.

Bothra said the pond in which the minor girl’s body was thrown is being dewatered to find out more clues to the gruesome incident. He said the investigation is on and all the angles to the case is being examined.

The SIT chief said the probing team is trying to find out if others are also involved in the crime.
