Abhijit Iyer Mitra admitted to Capital Hospital


Bhubaneswar: Journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra has been admitted to the Capital Hospital here today after he complained of acute stomach pain.

According to sources, after Mitra complained stomach pain, Jharpada Jail authorities contacted the Commissionerate Police which rushed him to the hospital amid tight security.

On November 7, the Odisha Assembly granted pardon to Mitra following the recommendation of the House Committee. Currently, Mitra is lodged in Jharpada Jail.

Mitra first appeared before the Odisha Assembly House Committee on October 23 for his derogatory remarks on Odisha. On the same day, Saheed Nagar police arrested Mitra and produced him before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate court in Bhubaneswar.

The court had remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days till November 5.

On October 25, the Konark Police took Mitra on a four-day remand to interrogate him over his derogatory remarks against the Sun Temple and about his aerial joy ride to Konark.

The House Committee had asked Abhijit to appear in person on November 2 and submit an affidavit. Though he appeared, he had failed to submit the affidavit. The court had granted one more day to appear with the affidavit, which he did.
