A Good Learning For Us: KL Rahul After ODI Series Loss Against South Africa
Paarl: After South Africa beat India by seven wickets in the second ODI at Boland Park in Paarl on Friday, captain KL Rahul termed this defeat as good learning for the Men in Blue.
“It’s a good learning for us. We are a team that takes a lot of pride in winning, but a good learning for us and hopefully we can grow. We are trying to get better at things we haven’t done well in the past,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.
“The way Shikhar and Virat batted in the first game was very good. The way Rishabh batted, the way he managed the first 20 balls and then he took down the spinners. He is a really important member of the team. Shardul, too, showing us he can bat lower down and make a good contribution. Jasprit has been the standout bowler for us and Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal) has been good today. The energy has been great, it’s been tough on the body staying in the bubbles. We love challenges and we have come short in the first two games, we will look ahead to the third game and try and win that one.”
Opting to bat, India ended their 50 overs at 287/6 after half-centuries from Rishabh Pant (85) and KL Rahul (55) and useful contribution from Shardul Thakur (40*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (25*). Tabraiz Shamsi (2-57) picked up two wickets while Aiden Markram (1-34) and Andile Phehlukwayo (1-44) picked up a wicket each.
Good knocks from Janneman Malan (91) and Quinton de Kock (78) helped South Africa reach the target with 11 balls to spare. Aiden Markram (37) and Rassie van der Dussen (37) remained unbeaten and saw the chase through.
With the win, South Africa have taken the series 2-0, with one ODI left to play. The final ODI is scheduled to be held on Sunday, January 23 at Cape Town.
