China: Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam claimed a hat-trick of gold medals at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 on Saturday. Aditi Swami bagged a bronze and Abhishek Verma got silver as Indian archers signed off with a historic haul of nine medals at the Asian Games.
Archer Pravin Ojas Deotale won the Men’s Compound 72 Arrows 50m gold medal, as his compatriot Abhishek Verma settled for the silver at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Saturday.
In an all-Indian final, Ojas defeated Abhishek 149-147 to win the gold medal.
Ojas also won the compound mixed team gold by pairing up with Jyothi Surekha Vennam.
Reigning world champion Aditi began the penultimate day at the continental showpiece by assuring the country of an unprecedented ninth medal in archery at these Games when she prevailed over Indonesia’s Ratih Zilizati Fadhly in a one-sided bronze play-off.
Later Jyothi, who had already secured a gold in mixed pair and women’s team events, made it three in a row when she rallied to defeat her formidable South Korean opponent So Chaewon 149-145.
