Chhatrapur: Two girls today drowned in Bay of Bengal near Aryapallui village here in Ganjam district. The deceased girls have been idnetified as Pranjarani Tripathy and Swapna Pandit.
Both the girls along with their four others friends had gone to the sea for bathing in the morning. All the girls slipped into the deep water while bathing. Four of them- Chandini Pandit, Swetarani Das, Subham Tripathy, Sonali Pandit were rescued safely while two others drowned.
A few hours after, the body of Swapana was fished out from the sea while rescue team had to launch intense search to trace Pranja’ body.
Following the instruction of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), an aircraft team of Indian coast guard also hovered over the sea off the Aryapalli beach for about three hours, but failed to trace her.
In the afternoon, ODRAF and fire team found her body floating near shore. They recovered the body and rushed it to the Chhatrapur hospital for post-mortem.
During day-long search operation, Chhatrapur MLA Subhas Behera, Additional Collector Priyaranjan Prusty, Additional Tehsildar Subhadarshan Sahoo, coast guard and fire officials were present.
Pranjarani Tripathy was studying in plus II at Seragada government College.
