A tragic incident unfolded in Gajapati district today as a young woman drowned after being swept away by the strong currents of a river.
Fire services personnel recovered her body following an intensive five-hour search operation.
The victim has been identified as Kabita Mandal of Kalapanka village under Dabaraguda Panchayat in the R. Udayagiri police station limits.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the victim was near the riverbank or attempting to cross the waterbody when she suddenly lost her footing and was carried away by the powerful current. After family members and residents failed to trace her, they alerted the local fire department for assistance.
Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and launched a comprehensive search and rescue operation in the river. Following five hours of relentless efforts, rescue officials managed to retrieve her body downstream. The tragic loss has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village and surrounding region.
