Over 80 students hospitalized after taking midday meals in Gajapati
Gajapati: As many as 80 students were hospitalized after taking midday meals (MDM) at the Bodakolakota Government High School under Gumma block in Gajapati district, while 31 of them were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital of the district as their condition deteriorated.
Reportedly, a total of 221 students of the residential school had their lunch on Thursday and nearly 80 students started vomiting after consuming the midday meal. At first they were rushed to the Gumma block hospital and later 31 students were shifted to the Gajapati DHH owing to critical condition.
The students said they had eaten rice, dal and curry in the MDM, but while eating the food, they smelt the Dal to be spoiled. Later, after eating the meals, they started vomiting and also suffered from headache and stomach pain. Previously, the students had informed the school administration about the sub standard meals being served there, but no appropriate action was taken in this regard.
After learning the incident, school headmaster Lakhmidhara Samantaray hospitalised the students. Notably the MDM is served by a Self Help Group, which has a dubious record.
