74 migrant labourers including 13 kids rescued in Bolangir while being trafficked to Andhra
Balangir: As many as 74 migrant labourers including 13 children were rescued while being trafficked to Andhra Pradesh on a train from Kantabanji railway station in Bolangir district today.
According to available information, among the rescued labourers, 42 were men and 32 were women including 13 children. They were from Belpada, Bangomunda, Muribahal, and Turekela in Balangir district and Golamunda area of Kalahandi district.
Acting on a tip-off, the GRP along with Kantabanji police raided the railway station and rescued the migrant workers. However, the labour contractor, who was allegedly transporting them on the train, managed to flee during the raid. Later, the Kantabanji Tahasildar made arrangements for sending the rescued labourers back to their respective homes.
Source said, the labourers had taken Rs 30,000 each from the contractor to get engaged in Vishakhapatnam.
A case has been registered and an investigation initiated into the matter, police said
