Over 5000 saris, piles of cash found from tax officer’s home


Bengaluru: During IT raids, the crackdown by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Hubballi on the residence of an Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes on Wednesday yielded close to 5,000 silk and designer saris worth several lakhs.

Around 5,000 saris from across the country were found in Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax Kariyappa Ningappa Karnal’s house.

The raid team also recovered documents showing significant property holdings in Bengaluru and Hubballi and his bank lockers will also be scrutinised.

As per sources, Rs 1.35 lakh in cash was found in his office and an additional Rs 6.94 lakh was seized from his home. Bank documents of Rs 5.5 lakh deposits in son’s name, a Honda Amaze car worth Rs 12 lakh and a two-wheeler were also found during the raid.

However, the raid is still on.
