Jharsuguda: Five persons have been arrested on the charges of smuggling cattle and as many as 45 cattle rescued from Amapali village near Jharsuguda border.
The arrested were identified as Samim Ahemad (52), Awardhram Yadav (31), Bharatlal Miri (32), Nara Sagar (38), Subash Sagar (40).
Acting on a tip-off, of cattle being transported in an inhuman way, a police team led by Rengali IIC Sarangadhar Panigrahi raided the village near the border area. During the search operation, the cops found a truck and conducted a search.
As many as 45 cattle were found inside the container of the truck.
Following this, police seized the truck and arrested the accused persons. Besides, two motorcycles, Rs 30,000 in cash was also recovered from the possession of the accused persons.
Reportedly, the cattle were being taken towards Kolkata without valid permission from Amapali village, police said.
A case (129/20) was registered against the accused persons under relevant Sections of IPC, the officials added.
