40 stray dogs poisoned to death in Cuttack, culprits on the run

Cuttack: A person hailing from Nahanga village in Bhaunria panchayat of Cuttack district has allegedly poisoned nearly 40 stray dogs to avenge his goat being bitten by a stray dog.

The person has been identified as Brahmananda Mallick of Bhaunria panchayat. He hit upon a plan to kill the dogs with Bharat Mallick. Reports said Brahmanada was angry as his goat was bitten by a stray dog in the village.

This incident shook the whole village with the Sarpanch registering a complaint against the duo. The police have started its investigation but the culprits are absconding.

Animal activists have condemned such a grisly act and demand a thorough investigation into the matter. When the government has issued advisory to feed stray animals during the lockdown, a crime against animals should not go unpunished, they added.

This incident could be equated with the gruesome killing of an elephant in Kerala a few days ago. The incident had created a hue and cry all over India especially among the animal lovers.
