Cuttack: Three workers were seriously injured after a tower crane suddenly collapsed during the construction work of the new building of AIIMS Plus at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) on Friday.
The injured labourers are Mubarak Parthari Baig (28) of Bihar, Bansidhar Mallik (45) and Dinbandhu Behera (45) from Odisha.
According to the information, the construction of the new building of SCB AIIMS Plus has been going on for a long time. A company named Nagarjuna Construction has undertaken the construction of a residential building in this area. By now the 11th floor had been completed.
It will be around 4 pm on Friday. A tower crane was raised up to 10 floors for the construction of 12 floors of the said building. Due to some reasons unknown, the crane suddenly broke down and the operator Mubarak fell down.
In the meanwhile, more than 50 labourers working under the crane, managed to run away to safety. However, Bansidhar and Dinbandhu suffered injuries after the iron pieces of the broken crane fell on them.
The three injured labourers were immediately rescued and admitted to the casualty ward of SCB MCH. While the crane operator suffered injuries on his head and hand, the two others suffered multiple injuries
According to SCB MCH authorities, the injured are being treated at trauma casualty under the supervision of a special medical team and their health condition is stable.
