23-yr-old Odisha law student dies in ‘cardiac arrest’ during football match


Kolkata: A 23-year-old student of National Law University Odisha (NLUO) died while playing football at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Eastern Centre Ground in Kolkata on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The deceased, identified as Ritwik Das, a native of Bhubaneswar, collapsed and died on Saturday evening while playing football for his institution in an inter-university tournament.

Ritwik had come to Kolkata to participate in the festival organised by the National University of Judicial Sciences (NUJS) Kolkata. The event had started on Friday and was about to conclude on Sunday.

As per sources, the incident took place at around 3.50 pm when Ritwik collapsed on the field during the match. While he was immediately rushed to Salt Lake AMRI Hospital, he was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors.

The police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for autopsy examination. Later, Ritwik’s family members were informed about the incident.

On Saturday night, Rashmi Ranjan Das, father of Ritwik Das, who is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, arrived in Kolkata. After completing all the necessary procedures, he left the city with Ritwik’s body on Sunday.
