22 Idols Stolen From Ancient Temple In Khurda


Khordha: As many as 22 idols were stolen from an ancient temple at Banpur near Balugaan in Khordha district late on Monday night.

According to reports, some unidentified miscreants barged into the sanctum sanctorum of the 300-old Dakheswar temple by breaking open the locks of three doors last night and fled away with the precious idols worth crores of rupees.

The stolen idols include Kanakdurga, Kaliyugeswar, Chandrasekhardev and Gopinathdev.

Sources said, the ancient shrine has been under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

As many as 31 ancient idols were there in the temple. Of them, 22 have been stolen, sources added.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
