22 child labourers rescued in Malkangiri


Malkangiri: Police and Childline officials on Thursday rescued 22 child labourers from Malkangiri district while they were being trafficked to other states.

The officials said all the rescued labourers are minors.

Acting on reliable inputs, the officials intercepted three vehicles in Padia area and rescued the minors.

Sources said the minors belong to Kurumapali village under Mathili block in the district. They were being trafficked to Andhra Pradesh, Chennai and other parts of the country.

Chairman of Malkangiri CWC, Ashok Patnaik said all the rescued children are orphans and have been sent to the children’s home after being produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Police have launched a manhunt to arrest those involved in the crime.
