Puri: In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling racket, the Excise officials today seized 200 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh from two drug peddlers in Puri.

The du, identified as Sibaprasad Behera (34) and Raghunath Das (22) of Siddha Mahavir area, has been apprehended for their alleged connection with the illegal activity.

According to available information, acting on a tip-off, Excise officers, who were present at the Siddha Mahavir level crossing area, nabbed the accused duo while they were trying to flee the spot.

Reportedly, the two were smuggling the brown sugar in Purushottam Express from Jaleswar to Puri and had alighted from the train near Siddha Mahavir level crossing.

Officials seized the brown sugar from their possession.
