Puri: The State government has decided to engage additional 200 buses to facilitate smooth transport during Rath Yatra, informed Central Range Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Anil Samal.
The decision came following a high-level meeting held on Monday.
The buses will be given permits to operate round-the-clock during the festival. The passenger vehicles will run for smooth transportation during Rath Yatra, Bahuda and Suna Besa in Puri, said Debendra Sahoo, secretary of Odisha private bus owners’ association.
While facilities like first-aid and drinking water will be provided at every bus stoppage, a special arrangement of e-rickshaws will be made at Talabania for differently-abled passengers.
All buses will operate in coordination with other agencies as instructed by the RDC. Action will be taken against the private bus owners charging more than the usual fare, sources said.
